Making slides from modeling images

This is the SGI version. For the SUN Openwindows equivalent, click here

  1. In the Desktop Icon under Find, bring down the Icon Catalog and choose Desktop Tools
  2. Choose the icon Snapshot
  3. Position the icon for Snapshot some where on the desktop (your choice), out of the way of the image you want to snap
  4. Use the right mouse button to bring down the menu for Snapshot
    Filename
The default name for the snapshot is snap.rgb. Snapshot will overwrite this file every time you snap a shot so be careful!

    Snapping a picture

  5. Start the application XV -- A UNIX imaging program (You can run this from the UNIX command line -- just type "xv") or use the Find an Icon uutility

NOTE: Only XV version 3.0 can read an SGI RGB format image!

  6. Now open the image in XV
  7. Save the image in a format that your application can read and name it some unique name other than snap.rgb!
    GIF
A GIF is the smallest with the good resolution. Some Macintosh programs won't read a GIFF (like Adobe Photoshop)
    TIFF
A TIFF file is also good resolution, but much bigger. Adobe photoshop will read a TIFF file.
    JPEG
A JPEG file is highly compressed, but you might lose some resolution
  8. Now you can FTP your image using the Fetch program on your Macintosh.
