In the Desktop Icon under Find, bring down the Icon Catalog and choose Desktop Tools
Choose the icon Snapshot
Alternatively, use the find an Icon from the Desktop tool and type in snapshot
Position the icon for Snapshot some where on the desktop (your choice), out of the way of the image you want to snap
Use the right mouse button to bring down the menu for Snapshot
Filename
The default name for the snapshot is snap.rgb. Snapshot will overwrite this file every time you snap a shot so be careful!
Snapping a picture
Place the mouse on the Snapshot Icon (NOTICE how the mouse turned into a little camera?) Together, Press the CONTROL KEY and POSITION the mouse in an upper corner of the area you want to snap. (The mouse should change into an angle bracket)
While STILL pressing the CONTROL KEY, PRESS the LEFT mouse button to draw the box around the image you want to snap
Under the menu for snapshot, click on save as (your filename)
Start the application XV -- A UNIX imaging program (You can run this from the UNIX command line -- just type "xv") or use the Find an Icon uutility
NOTE: Only XV version 3.0 can read an SGI RGB format image!
