Hi! there:

You should also take a look at the AlphaArray reader from Alpha Innotech Corporation.

Take a look at www.alphainnotech.com

Good Luck,
Poonam

We used GMS418 before and now are using GMS428, their next version from Affimetrix (used to be Genetic Microsystem).Because we don't have direct experience of any other scanner,I don't want to say ours is one of the best. But definitely I can say we are quite satisfied with GMS428 scanner.

Good luck!

You should also look at the Genefocus scanners. The DNAscopes IV and V provide high resolution images and are very reliable. Their website is www.genefocus.com.

I have had opportunity to work with GenPix4000, GSI5000 and a home-made CCD scanner. In my experience they all work well, depending upon your needs. None of them could be regarded best, all have some problems. As a colleague of mine says, "I wish they could combine features of GenePix and GSI, to make one hell of a scanner". There are features that I like in both, so I use them both.

Alam

Hi,

Commercial but non-biased response (we do not sell scanners just arrayers)

We have two scanners from Applied Precision, one about a year old and a brand new one. We also have access to two GSI instruments. Whilst both types have there positive and negative aspects, we have had better service and support from API.

The software does take a bit of getting used to, but once you are they are very reliable, quick, sensitive etc and as such out of the two the API is what I would recommend.

We have recently looked at the Alpha Innotech instrument which looks very good as well.

The flexibility offered by these scanners over the laser scanners for changing filters etc (at significantly lower cost) was a big positive. We have also found them to be just as good at low signal regardless of what the company line from the laser scanner suppliers!

We do still use the GSI instruments on occasion.

Regards

Louise

I think that GenePix4000 is the best scanner for two reasons:
1. It is a simultaneous scanner that permit to avoid any bleaching effect.
2. The software is very handy and give you a good quality of results.
