Introduction

The Center for Cardiovascular Research at Stanford has a broad clinical and basic science research program aimed at solving the problems of cardiovascular disease in the United States. This multi-disciplinary program is exceptionally well placed to interact with industry to effectively achieve the goal of accelerating the development of new drugs, technologies, devices, and services.

The Center has 40 faculty members and 70 postdoctoral fellows who conduct research in more than a dozen laboratories within the Falk Cardiovascular Research Center and other affiliated sites. The scope of research ranges from basic molecular and cellular biology to clinical studies and assessment of healthcare policy. Collaborations also take place with other laboratories within Stanford and in other universities throughout the world. Currently, we are a selected site for the American Heart Association-Bugher Foundation Center for Molecular Biology. We also have an National Institute of Health (NIH) Vascular Academic Award, an NIH Program Project in Vascular Remodeling and two Training Awards in Vascular Biology and Electrophysiology. The Center for Cardiovascular Research houses members of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Additional collaborations with the Program for Molecular and Genetic Medicine (PMGM) and with the Center for Research in Disease Prevention are especially noteworthy.

Benefits to Spectrum Members

It is anticipated that by participating in the Center program, Spectrum members will develop a long-term collaborative relationship with faculty members. To foster this, faculty and fellows will welcome the opportunity to visit the member companies to present topics of interest. In addition, the center affords a unique opportunity to the Spectrum member for additional networking. The Center has had a reputation as a world leader in Cardiovascular Research for over 25 years. In that time, we have trained todayŐs leaders in the field. We maintain a strong network with our former trainees and can assist you in your efforts to reach this specialized group. In addition, each Spectrum member may participate in the various services and activities summarized here. Services or programs of interest to the Spectrum member but not listed here should be discussed with the liaison or the Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
