Stanford-wide E-mail Settings Changes

During Spring break, Leland Systems closed off some security holes in the campus email servers. Unfortunately, as a result of this change, Leland users found that they could not send email as usual. While they could still send mail to "@leland" email addresses, they could not send mail to "@stanford" addresses, or to any other non-leland email addresses, including those off-campus. To fix this problem, configure your email software so that the outgoing email server is set to:
smtp.stanford.edu.

Detailed Eudora configuration instructions are available here for Macintosh or PC-Eudora.

This is the configuration that Stanford has been recommending for years. Due to a hole in the system, however, some people with Eudora were able to get by with listing a "popserver" or "pobox server" as an outgoing email server without any ill effects: their email continued to work. Unfortunately, spammers were using this security hole to clog the system with unsolicited commercial email.

The main CMGM/Biochemistry Deptartment Eudora pages are available here.
