OVERVIEW
The PAN Biotechnology Facility can supply analytical
support of capillary electrophoresis by means of Beckman 2000 instrumentation.
This methodology provides inspection of an analyte by means of its
behavior as a charged ion in an electrical field of low electrolyte
concentration. Thus, CE can serve to provide characterization capability
complementary to the different hydrophobic separation principles
of HPLC.
Capillary electrophoresis analyses are available for
characterization of synthetic peptides and oligonucleotides and
as verification of post synthesis purification procedures.
The synthetic efficiency of modifying both peptides
and oligonucleotides can be readily monitored since CE separates
on the basis of both size and charge.
Interpretation of mass spectrometry results of peptides
and oligonucleotides can be enhanced by CE analyses by providing
estimates of quantitative ratios of sample components.
Monitoring by CE of protease digestions and of the
resultant peptides separated by HPLC, can provice improved results
for sequence analysis.
