Kerberizing CMGM Sessions with PC-Leland

These pages describe how to configure CMGM logins for Kerberized sessions. You should already have installed PC-Samson and PC-Leland on your computer. PC-Samson is the telnet client of choice for Kerberizing connections on Windows-based computers.

Telnet to CMGM

Using PC-Samson ("Winsam"), open a connection to "cmgm.stanford.edu".

Log in to your CMGM account with your CMGM Username and Password:

At the prompt "cmgm:~ 31 %" type "cat > .klogin" and press return or enter to create a .klogin file (the period in front of the klogin string is necessary).

Add the following line of code:

username@IR.STANFORD.EDU

where the username is your "leland" account name. This information is case sensitive.

Press control-d to save the file. This will throw you out to the "cmgm:~ 31 %" prompt, where you can logoff.

The .klogin file instructs the computer to look for your Kerberos ticket at IR.STANFORD.EDU. If a ticket is found, you are automatically logged on.

Testing the Kerberized CMGM connection

To test the connection, quit PC-Samson and start it again. Login to CMGM or PMGM:

Instead of being asked your username and Password, you should see the following:

Host accepts login for username
Kerberos V4 mutual authentication
Kerberos ticket-granting ticket forwarded to cmgm.stanford.edu

You should also notice the following icon in the top right corner of the screen in the menubar (note the double-arrows over the picture of the Stanford Quad!):
